Crime Scene = Twilight Zone? Information Event on Power Abuse in Academia
Prof. Dr. Jutta Stahl, Faculty of Human Sciences
Thursday, 07.11.2014, 5:00 pm
Academia is an exciting and excellent working environment for many intelligent and committed individuals. However, there are also situations that can be challenging or difficult. Recently, cases of power abuse, and interpersonal or academic misconduct have become more widely known. Studies, such as UniSAFE, suggest that these most likely are not isolated incidents.
The first step toward prevention and creating better systemic conditions in academia is information.
The event aims to raise awareness among PhD and postdoctoral candidates at the University of Cologne about the issue of power abuse. Other interested individuals are also warmly welcome.
This information event is organised by the team “Dein Raum!”. One of the co-organisers is Jutta Stahl, professor of Differential Psychology and Psychological Assessment, member of the Ombudsman Committee and the Working Group on Incentive Systems, Power Abuse, and Academic Misconduct of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie, and trust person for conflict resolution in doctoral supervision relationships at the Faculty of Human Sciences.
In an introductory lecture, she will provide an initial insight into the topic:
The various forms of power abuse and factors that encourage it will be presented, and possible prevention strategies will be outlined.
Additionally, you will receive information about existing advisory, complaint, and support services at the university, along with a brief insight into their specific working methods.
Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
